#massivejob #septictank #nearlyfinished

Woah! The septic tank has been a massive job. Row has spent a total of 10 days working on it and it's nearly finished.
It's taken about 35 hours on the digger, 240m of pipe and around 100 tonne of gravel = 10 truck loads, to get it to this stage. Tomorrow we hope to have it signed off by the council so we can check that job off the list!

One of the three trenches for the field drains

This reminded me of Boggis, Bunce and Bean from Fantastic MR FOX. Rowan has dug up a total area of about 250 square metres! He's just casually digging another trench.

Just working out some measurements ready for...

Drilling a total of 540 holes for the field drain pipes!

Early morning start today. We had a lot of gluing to do. Brian the drain man came to  check on progress and give us a bit if a hand today :)

Gluing all the field drain pipes together.

Few bits of pipe going here and there

She's a pretty big job.
Fingers crossed it all works to plan when the toilet flushes for the first time....

Start of the services

Things are looking good on the land. Everything is going to plan, we're on track for moving day and the budget is looking happy.

This weekend Rowan started working on the first of the 'services'- the septic tank. All of the parts arrived on Friday including what looks like 100 pipes and connections.

Brian the 'Drain Man' has designed the septic tank and is keeping an eye on Rowan's construction.

Rowan spent the day scraping back the field drain site and dug out a platform for the four separate tank units. It looks like the perfect sight for a swimming pool- but not this time.

Rowan tells me it's a pretty simple septic tank system. I'm sure he knows what he's talking about. He's pretty excited about all if this!
Rowan inside the main tank!
(I think that will be the last time he'll want to play in there!!)

Rowan's showing off his skills on the digger!

Believe it or not I just finished a VERY important job. I was feeling pretty useful! Too bad Rowan covered it up with dirt!

Digging out the first trench for the field drains.

And Toppie came out for a flying lesson.
Perfect day for a spot of plane flying :)

Day two progress

The builders are working fast!
Today they finished preparing the Slab.
It's ready for the steel inspection and the concrete pour on Monday!
And these gigantic holes are for the lean-to posts to go in!

Rowan has been busy in the weekend too.

He moved this pile of clay...

Into this gigantic hole.

And Will came to help! Looking like a pro Will!

Day One Shed Progress

Today the builders from Trubets turned up to start the foundations for the shed.

They've worked pretty quickly to complete the footings and base course today.

For those who don't know- the footing is the moat that goes around the inside of the boxing.

Dave was the hero of the day. With only hours of notice he turned up to help us with the plumbing. David and Rowan had the job completed in about half an hour and they still had time for a beer before dinner time. Thanks Dave!!!

It's starting!

The council consent is back and we are ready to go. The builders think they will start some time this week!!

Today Rowan spent the morning finishing off one of the culverts with rocks. Row still needs to use some cement to lock them in place. They really tidy up the driveway.

I had a go at planting some bulbs but the ground is so dry - and I didn't have a trowel- just the Grubber. Might have another go next weekend after a bit of rain??

And before any of the builders arrive next week we needed to mark out the build site. We spent the afternoon marking out - and remarking out the build site.
We had to make sure we had the angle right!
Should the shed Align with the fence line or run along the ridge??
Floorplan

And we had lunch!

And tonight we made a quick visit just to check the angle again. We think we have it right! .... Probably.
