The first night

So here we have it. We have had our first night sleeping in our new 'house'.
It was a bit strange to think we would not be rushing off and that we would be staying the night.

Well first thing first. I had to unpack the tubs of kitchen stuff. I had no idea where to put it all so onto Rowan's butchers block it went. I was not going to be storing our plates in the mouse cupboard that was for sure! Just to be clear - I am under no illusions  that they will stay off this bench either but...somehow it just seems cleaner!

So with that unpacked and Rowan bringing home kebabs for dinner there was only one thing left to do- seal the grout in the bathroom of course.

So off I went, tiny brush in hand into the bathroom.  Hopefully I did the job right after all of Rows hard tiling work.

Rowan arrived home with wine to celebrate our new home :). Rowan looked very relaxed and was smiling all night! Even when I reminded him that he needed to build us our bed...

Very creative is Rowan.
"Hmm I'm sure I have a piece of timber for that"

He even made a bed head!

Once Row thought that the tile sealant had had enough time to dry he couldn't wait to check out how well the shower worked and I had my fingers crossed to check that the water actually fell down the drain. ( not that I doubted Row at all)
And lucky for Row the shower works and drains away so well so he took time to stretch out on his couch!

Lights off. It's dark in the country!!

It's getting close..

Lots of progress made today. Rowan outsmarted me again with his tile laying skills.
So many measurements and  angles there is no way that I could have laid them half as well as this!

Lots of tile adhesive mixed today...although today will be the last time we will have to dunk the bucket into the water tank.

Tiles all ready for grouting tomorrow. Then we can connect the toilet up and bathroom is set to go ( sort of)

The gas has been connected, the water pump is now pumping water after a bit of a challenge 'priming the pump'?!?!

And here we have it. Hot running water out of the temporary kitchen tap. Yes it is running into a bucket but we'll take that as a win for today!
It's been a pretty good day :)

Lights are on...

But nobody is home- yet!
We can't move in until next weekend because the bathroom is NOT ready for us.

The power went on over the week. Here's what it looks like in the dark.

Rowan has worked hard this weekend to prime the floor in the bathroom and then seal the bathroom up ready for tiling.

And today... After two coats of membrane seal

It's quite blue. Not the finished bathroom colour that's for sure. This is the last job we need council inspection for and then we'll be straight into it. Looking out for a bathroom sink and tap now. And we're waiting for our toilet to arrive. It's been a long time travelling from Auckland.

And we have finished the last of the gibbing. Next job. Gib stopping...
And the bathroom and the kitchen and painting and cleaning the floor and the big door and the deck and the battons.

The colour challenge- again

It's blue vs green time again.

Row loves his olive greens
I like blues.
It's time for the bathroom
What colour choice will we choose.

We have to choose tiles, paint, and a solid colour for the baby iron which will run along two walls of the wet area of the shower.

Rowan's not so sure about the blue, I'm not so sure about the green... So... We are currently undecided.

Dark tiles, light tiles, big squares or small?

It's all too much for a Monday night.

'Move in day' - 6 sleeps!!

The builders...

A bit of funny while doing the gib on the structural walls.

I'm actually short enough to sneak under.... Rowan's not so lucky.

Pink bats and ceilings

It's looking more like a house now.
Although I wouldn't be so keen on having a permanent pink colour scheme.

We've been busy insulating the walls and the roof this weekend.
First time insulators- a few sneaky gaps in the walls but nothing "a wee slither" can't fix.

We were suprised at how quickly got all of the insulation done. Only 6 hours and the place felt warmer.

After the insulation we started on the ceiling lining. Luckily we had a GIB hoist because I would NOT have been very helpful in holding up the GIB while Rowan glued and screwed it to the ceiling batons.

Tonight we left the shed with the entire ceiling lined. Rowan is meeting the building inspector tomorrow and hopefully then we can GIB the walls and start the bathroom.

Real move in day - 13 days to go
